Summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection thermal camera captured an object moving at high speed over the airport and into the ocean without slowing down, appearing to travel seamlessly between air and water.

Background

On April 25, 2013, a DHC-8 aircraft operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection was preparing to land at Rafael Hernandez Airport in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico when the crew observed an unidentified object. They captured it on their thermal imaging system.

The Video

The thermal footage shows a small, cool object (1-3 feet estimated) moving at approximately 80-120 mph across the airport area. The object then enters the ocean without any apparent deceleration or splash, and appears to split into two objects underwater before re-emerging.

Analysis by the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU)

The SCU conducted a detailed analysis concluding:

  • The object displayed transmedium capability (air-to-water without speed change)
  • No known drone or aircraft matches the observed characteristics
  • The apparent splitting underwater is particularly anomalous
  • Wind and thermal data rule out common explanations (balloon, bird, lantern)

Caveats

  • The video was leaked, not officially released
  • Resolution is limited, making size estimation difficult
  • Some analysts suggest it could be a bird or debris with parallax effects
  • The “splitting” could be a tracking artifact

Significance

One of the earliest and clearest examples of alleged transmedium travel — an object moving between air and water — which has since become a key characteristic in UAP discussions and was specifically mentioned in congressional hearings.
